Five years ago, Diverse City Founder and CEO Cheryl Ingram, PhD began to feel a heaviness from her own personal experiences and bearing witness to the struggles of marginalized populations in society. This pull in her heart led to years of research and discovery and the eventual establishment of Diverse City, a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) consulting firm specializing in DEI assessments, training, coaching, and consulting.
“I started looking at numbers and letting them tell me a story—a story that identified trends and showed the impact of inequity on our workplaces,” said Dr. CI., “The results helped me to regain a love of science, specifically for numbers that tell a story about the issue of inequities that are created by systems, both human and computerized.” Some of the key benchmarks studied include performance, gender identity and race. Dr. CI. used this data to enact change within her team, and provide more opportunities to people of color, women, and individuals with disabilities.
What started off as research, has since grown into something much larger. Currently, Diverse City, LLC provides a solutions-oriented approach to companies aiming to establish strategies for growth and development in the areas of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Rather than providing companies with resources without viable training and implementation guidance, Dr. CI. and her team strive for “advocacy and change through (their) services and continue to develop and foster relationships through building sustainable foundations of DEI.” They aim to one day franchise their company and spread their practices and beliefs globally.
Diverse City, LLC’s mission is to create all-inclusive workplaces by providing education, assessment, benchmarking, and strategic coaching and planning to increase the retention and recruitment of potential hires without facing barriers rooted in bias.
