When Managing Partner Timothy Parlatore founded Parlatore Law Group two years ago, he did so with a commitment to supporting small business growth and development, in addition to supporting veterans, reservists, National Guard, and spouses of active military members. The Rosie Network marries these two priorities and in many ways was a natural fit.
Founded in 2012 by military spouse Stephanie Brown, the Rosie Network is currently the largest nonprofit focused on solving the military spouse unemployment crisis through entrepreneurship and self-employment. Its mission is to “build stronger military families by developing entrepreneurial programs and support services that empower active-duty, veterans, and military spouses to realize the American Dream of small business ownership.” The network includes no cost training and mentorship through its “national award-winning Service2CEO program, offered through chapters nationwide.” (The Rosie Network). The Service2CEO program is offered by subject matter experts and successful business leaders who have grown their companies from the ground up.
After meeting Ms. Brown at a military influencer’s conference last fall, Mr. Parlatore knew that the Rosie Network was an organization he wanted to support, describing it as a natural fit with his firm. “It’s a phenomenal program that teaches military spouses how to build their businesses; it pairs perfectly with our platform, allowing us to present to their members on the legal aspects of building a business.”
Since then, attorney volunteers from Parlatore Law group have presented to local cohorts on the legal basics of starting and building successful businesses. When the pandemic hit in early 2020, the cohort presentations moved online, helping to deepen the relationship between Parlatore Law Group and The Rosie Network, allowing attorneys the opportunity to present to cohorts worldwide, not just locally.
Parlatore Law Group Partner Erin Darden recently virtually presented to program participants on the legal basics of starting a business, including different types of intellectual property, legal entities, contracts, waivers, and other legal terms entrepreneurs should be aware of. “I really enjoyed it because that is the type of organization that I would love to be a resource for, said Ms. Darden. “My personal goal is to combine my legal experience and my coaching skills to help people turn their passion into a thriving business so it was a wonderful opportunity for me to help other people do that.”
Parlatore agrees, citing the most gratifying part of working with the Rosie Network is his “ability to build relationships with the participations, and then assist them in putting those lessons into practice and building successful businesses.”
